CrossFit started as a maverick gym in Santa Cruz, California in 1998. The founder, Greg Glassman posted his short, intense workouts on a blog every day (the “workout of the day” or, WOD) and encouraged his readers – mostly garage-gym enthusiasts – to post their results in the comments. workouts are still posted daily, free for everyone, and followed religiously by many. The method attracts a lot of media attention (including many detractors) primarily because most workouts are only 10 – 15 minutes long, yet yield amazing fitness results in a short period of time.

CrossFit delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. CrossFit’s specialty is not specializing. Daily life, like many sports and professions, (and even combat) requires broad levels of fitness. CrossFit’s program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. CrossFit workouts are comprised of functional movements – we squat, jump, run, throw and lift – and are constantly varied (workouts change every day) and are executed at high intensity. Sometimes, one-on-one sessions is just what is needed. At Diablo, we have many of the most experienced, and most knowledgable coaches in all of CrossFit. We’ve been coaching CrossFit, weightlifting, gymnastics, mobility and nutrition for more than 7 years. Our Coaches practice what they preach and are prepared to work with you one-on-one to help you achieve your goals in fitness, strength and nutrition.

Masters Programming (40+)

CrossFit is relied upon by many amateur and professional athletes to keep them in shape for their sport – especially the sport of fitness. After age 40, physical fitness is critical to not only being competitive in sports, but simply being able to participate. At Diablo CrossFit, we help our Masters-level athletes maintain and win with fitness as a foundation for success. We have a solid group of 40+ year-old athletes who compete in myriad sports, including 5ks, 10ks, marathons, triathlons, fitness competitions, Masters Track & Field, the CrossFit Games, rowing, car racing, and more. All of Diablo CrossFits workouts offer masters athlete scaling – from load adjustments to box-jump step downs – using a recommended completion time or volume as a basis for scaling. If you’re training for a specific sport, our coaches will help design a CrossFit schedule that accommodates your sport specific workouts and events. We’ll also provide Masters athletes with recommended accessory exercises to help improve areas of weakness tailored to your sport.

Masters Madness Class

If you’re ready to take to on the CrossFit Games as a Master, or try your hand at a local competition, or, if you simply want to take your workout to the next level, join our Masters Madness class! Every week our Masters athletes come together for a 90 minute class that starts with skill work, then onto strength training & efficiency work, followed by a metabolic conditioning workout that will leave you on floor. Our goal is to simulate the experience of competition while pushing your fitness to the next level.

PLAN D Masters Edition

Plan D is our Competitive CrossFit programming. Head Coach Jeremy Jones publishes weekly workouts for strength, skills, efficiency and metabolic conditioning. The Plan D schedule also includes partner and team workouts and skills. The weekly schedule follows the Plan D macro-schedule for Games athletes, including Masters, which provides a month-by-month training focus to help athletes prepare for the Open, Regionals, and Games. The Plan D workouts provide appropriate scaling for Masters athletes, including loads, substitutions and times.

Plan D Competition Programing

We call our workout programming “Plan D.” It is the product of Head Coach, Jeremy Jones, who has more than 8 years of programming experience for Diablo’s competition athletes and the box workout of the day. We make it available to qualified athletes in our box or on-line for remote athletes. We also offer Plan D programming for affiliates that need competition programming for their athletes or teams.

Diablo CrossFit athletes have qualified and participated in every CrossFit Games competition since 2008 (we didn’t see the open invitation for 2007!). Diablo athletes are regularly on the podium at the Nor Cal Regionals and made podium at the Games in 2012 (3rd place Team) and 2013 (1st Place Masters). Diablo athlete and Plan D follower Alessandra Pichelli earned a 4th place finish in her debut at the Games in 2013. And, several Diablo athletes are now professional athletes in the new National Pro Grid League. .

Plan D is CrossFit – with supplemental specialty training for the competition athlete including strength, gymnastics, efficiency, stamina and lifting techniques. CrossFit is an evidence-based fitness program enhanced by meaningful feedback from participating athletes. Likewise, Plan D leverages data from the results of our athletes along with their feedback to constantly improve for our competitive athlete community. Thus, we all make gains together.
